Shakespeare North Theatre

The Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, Merseyside, will be one of the North of England’s most high profile cultural and educational assets. The development includes a 350 seat theatre, outdoor performance garden, exhibition and visitor centre. It is scheduled to open in 2022. The theatre is modelled on the ‘cockpit-in-court’ design popular during the Elizabethan era. Alongside the theatre will be an outdoor performance garden, exhibition and visitor centre and educational facilities. The Playhouse will complete the UK’s Shakespearean triangle – London – Stratford-upon-Avon – Prescot. An innovative ventilation design will bring air into the theatre via diffusers mounted to the underside of the seats. This will allow the seating to look authentic for the period whilst achieving a controlled temperature environment.
