The infrastructure work included design and integration of all utility supplies including an HV network to some 20 inter-linked No Sub-Stations. Extensive co-ordination was required with the external services located within the highways for the project. Foreman Roberts produced fully coordinated working drawings from which the contractors and utility company’s installed infrastructure for Electricity, Gas, Water & Telecoms. The project was also the first major project to face new legislation developed to enable the private distribution and sale of electricity. The design challenges included, designing the infrastructure to deliver a phased construction, developing flexibility to meet changing needs, Coordination, Security of supplies, and developing fully coordinated ‘common utility routes’ to minimise infrastructure costs.
